Into the “Land of Sunsets"

March 6, 2015: Exit California – Enter Arizona.

Our final sunset before leaving California.  View from our campsite toward the Whipple Mountains to the west.

A few days on the California side of the Colorado River near Lake Havasu gives us a chance to catch up with a few mundane chores.  A trek up to Lake Havasu City marks a couple of items off our list: 1) stock up on groceries; and 2) address the mountain of laundry that’s been piling up the last couple of weeks or so.  With an abundance of both food and clean clothing we’re set.

A few of happy hour evenings around the campfire with some folks and a boat ride down the Colorado River for lunch at the Blue Water Casino with a couple from Calgary, Alberta, and it’s time to move on.  They’re a nice group of people, and have been very welcoming to us – the short timers.

We exit California – and enter Arizona.

Parker, Arizona is our first stop, only a few miles from the resort where we’ve been staying.  Heading for the closest town is out of necessity as we were faced with a flat tire this morning.  A stop at State Line Tire & Wheel, where prompt attention by their awesome young service tech, got us back on the road in record time.  New chrome valve stems installed on all four back tires should remedy this low and/or flat tire issue we have been plagued with for months.

Now that we’re in Parker, what’s our destination for today?

Moon over S-SLA (Special Light Sport Aircraft).  We saw these guys last winter sitting right here in nearly the same camp spot – Plomosa Road BLM.  Looks like fun!

For lack of creativity – or planning – we head south on Highway 95 towards Quartzsite.  It’s only 25 miles or so to the Plomosa Road BLM camping area north of Quartzsite.  We enjoyed some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets from that area last winter.

Here’s an example of our sunset views since we arrived at Plomosa Road BLM.  Can’t complain.  Until next time – be safe.
