Should old acquaintances be forgotten . . .

December 31, 2014: Who really knows all the words to this New Year’s Eve song?  And, what the heck does it mean?

Nordic cross country skiers at the Frisco Adventure Park.

“Auld Lang Syne”
Should old acquaintances be forgotten,
And never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintances be forgotten,
And days of long ago!

From New Year Favors website:
AuldLang Syne is about old friends who have parted and meet again. To celebrate their long friendship, they share a drink together and reminisce of memories from long ago. The basic message is that we should not forget our old friends and should celebrate a reunion with them.”

The last day of 2014 – and what an absolutely beautiful day it is!

We’re venturing out to see what’s going on around town.  Our first stop is the Frisco Adventure Park.  If you love winter sports this is the place to be.  Sledding, tubing, Nordic skiing, sleigh rides, and hamster balls.

 Families enjoy the sledding hill.

“Human Hampster Balls” – a great teen activity.  Can you even imagine Jack and me in these big balls?  What a laugh that would be!

Folks walking toward the “Magic Carpet” that takes them to the top of the tubing hill.

Tubing looks like great fun.  We could do that!

Frisco Day Lodge – a good place to warm up and have lunch.

Imagine gliding across the snow in a sleigh with this beautiful horse and mule leading the way.

After checking out the Adventure Park we drive down to Main Street and wander through some shops and enjoy the sunny afternoon.

As we park the Jeep we see the Maui Ski Bus across the street.  Hmm.  It’s got Hawaii license plates.  Go figure.

Up and down Main Street and we’re ready to move on.  Next stop – Silverthorne.  We shop the outlet stores and leave with only one Eddie Bauer purchase – for me.  (It’s all about me today!)

Winter fly fishing?  Really?  Yeah, really.

The outlet mall is next to the Blue River.  As we’re leaving we notice fishermen in the river.  It’s darn cold out to be standing in the icy river.

Now that’s a real diehard fisherman.

We end our New Year’s Eve outing with an early dinner at Ollie’s and a year-end picture of the Christmas decorations at the intersection of Main Street and Summit Boulevard.  As 2014 comes to a close, we wish you happiness and joy in the new year.  Until next year – be safe.

All is calm; all is bright

December 28, 2014: After Christmas.

All is calm: Our oldest son, his wife, and 3 year old son headed back to Denver this morning after a few days stay with us in Frisco.  Not that we’re seeking calm.  It’s simply the results of a 3 year old exiting the premises.  We miss them already.

All is bright: Photo taken yesterday, the first really bright day we’ve had since the kids came to visit on Christmas Day.  I snapped this photo at a turn out along I-70 as I ran an errand to Silverthorne.

Colorado Cold vs. Arizona Cold.

Snow covered Lake Dillon.

Weather permitting we had anticipated trekking back to Arizona on Monday the 29th.  There are 2 or 3 days of snowfall predicted along our outward bound path through Colorado, so we’ll wait for clear skies and roads.  But, the other factor is that although it is indeed cold in Colorado, there’s not exactly a heatwave happening in Apache Junction at the moment.  We’re inclined to stay put and toasty warm by the fire, rather than being confined inside the Mini-Moose for several days with the temps in the 50’s and 60’s.  This will give us time to pack up all the Christmas decorations, enjoy the snow a little longer, and wrap up a few odds and ends here in Frisco.  We’re hoping for a quick return of warm weather to Sunrise RV Resort.  It’s time for some water volleyball, fun on the pickle ball court, and Friday night Mexican Train!

Frisco nestled between the mountains and the lake.  Until next time – be safe.

For unto us a child is born

December 25, 2015: Merry Christmas!

From our home to yours: Wishing you a blessed and peaceful Christmas.
May all your wishes and dreams for the new year come true.

Isaiah 9:6 ~ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Over the river and through the woods . . .

December 22, 2014: . . . to the doctor’s office I go.

An icy cold Ten Mile Creek meanders through Frisco toward Lake Dillon.

I’ve been fighting a sinus head cold for the last couple of weeks.  A trip to the doctor this morning confirms acute sinusitis – just as I suspected.  The antibiotics are gripping the infection as I type.  I’m expecting tomorrow to be a fabulous day.

Knowing it would take a little time for the pharmacy to fill the prescription, I take a drive down Main Street to see what’s happening.

The street is lined with cars as many out of town visitors spend the Christmas holiday in Frisco and the surrounding towns and ski resorts.

A teenage snowboarder with his family in tow, coming down the sidewalk.  With his head down to avoid the blowing snow, I step aside to avoid a "belly bang by a board".

The snow in the middle of Main Street is piled high by snow plows.  And, it’s supposed to snow through the night.  Great weather for the skiers and boarders.  We’re good as long as I-70 to Denver is clear the next few days so we can slide down the mountain to spend time with family and friends.  Until next time – be safe.
