A
day in Canyon Rims Recreation Area – BLM Land
The campground behind us,
we turn onto the “tar” road until we reach the “Y”, then bounce our way down 8
miles of “corrugated” road to the Anticline Overlook. (Aussie translation on 10.8.13) The view is well worth the bumpy drive. We can see the geologic
anticline, the Colorado River, and Kane Springs Canyon.
But
what we find more riveting is the road below us.
With all of this beauty
before us, we are most captivated by the incredible road that lies below
us. In the above picture you can see it
snake up one side of the mountain, disappearing out of sight, then reappearing,
and winding back down the other side. I
know we are easily amused, but this spectacle kept our attention for over ½
hour!
We watched as vehicles
drove down the road through the green valley floor (you can make out the road
below).
Then started the trek up
the one lane dirt road.
And finally coming down the
other side with sheer drop offs – and no guard rails.
And venturing off into this
“no man’s land” to who knows where.
We watched a vehicle
started up the road as another was beginning their decent down the same side –
wondering where they would meet.
Luckily, there was a turnout where one pulled off and let the other
proceed past.
With all this finally out
of our system, we drive back down the “corrugated” road and take the short drive
to Minor Overlook.
Enough overlooks for the
day. We drive home to Windwhistle and
settle in for the evening.
I hope your day was as excellent
as ours. Be safe. See you soon.
