“Sand Art” by Nature

October 1, 2014: Great Sand Dunes National Park, CO

View of the dunes as you approach the entrance to Great Sand Dunes National Park.

A photo essay of nature’s own “Sand Art” from Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado.

In my next post I’ll talk a little bit about how all this sand got here, how the dunes continually recreate themselves, and “wave surges” in Medano Creek, a unique feature found only in a few locations around the world.  Pretty interesting stuff.  I’ll also show you some pictures from our hikes and dune climbing.  In the meantime, enjoy the “Sand Art”.

Water and sand sculpture.

Tiny feet.

Circles in the sand.  The wind blows the blades of grass 360 degrees creating complete circles in the sand.

Japanese geisha fans.

 Crescent moon.

Someone’s little footies.

Lizards chasing lizards.

Worm-like sand ridges in the creek bed.

Watermarks in Medano Creek.

Did you enjoy Nature’s art?  Your comments are always welcome.  Until next time – be safe.
