Paddle, Peddle, Dash!

July 12, 2014: The Summit Games at Frisco Bay Marina.

The marina is filled with boats.  It's a far different view from a few weeks ago when this whole area was dry mud.

There’s always something going on in the Frisco area, and this weekend the Summit Games are being held at the marina.  Sounds like fun so we ride our bikes down to check it out.  On the agenda are a variety of events: SUP races, fly fishing clinic, dog run, SUP yoga, and the Inaugural Frisco Triathlon.

Paddle, Peddle, Dash!

The Frisco Triathlon starts off with a 3K SUP (stand-up-paddle) boarding across Lake Dillon, then a 15K single track mountain biking race, and finishing up with a 5K trail run.  Sounds like a really good time for all those folks.  23K of paddling, peddling, and running is way out of our realm.  We are very happy observers.

While observing the activities of others I took lots of pictures.  Here’s some of my favorites.

Flags waving in the breeze over a beautiful sailboat.  A couple of gentlemen enjoying the day together.

A whole collection of SUPs (stand up paddle boards) are lined up along the shore.  This is a “free use day” for folks to try out different boards to pique their interest in the sport.

This old dude has more guts that Jack and me.  Onto the SUP and off he goes – slowly, but he’s making forward progress.

These young folks just finished a kayak race.  The young lady in yellow paddled with her dog.

Kayaks line a small cove.

Thank goodness she brought a sweater to keep her arms warm.

God Bless America!  This older gentleman enjoyed the afternoon riding his big trike around the marina.

Any guesses what Jack's looking for under there?  Me neither.

Racked up canoes.

This is a new one.  Yoga on SUPs.

And, the downward facing dog pose.

Our day at the marina came to an end with a friendly encounter with a three-legged dog, Trace, and her human.  Her umbilical cord wrapped around her left front leg while in the womb and cut off circulation.  Her leg was amputated shortly after birth but it hasn’t slowed her down.  She’s a happy, healthy girl.

Back on our bikes.

After an entertaining day at the marina we hop back on our bikes and head for our little abode.  Until next time – be safe.
