So long Wahweep ... and hello to the Navajo, the German, and the Kiwis.

October 16, 2013
We move out of our expensive digs and hit the beach.
Packed up, we’re ready to get out of Wahweep Campground early and hit the beach.  Lone Rock Campground is up the highway about 5 miles – just over the border into Utah.  We set up camp and are nearly alone on the beach.

A few other campers are down the beach from us.

Late in the afternoon we take a walk down the beach and observe these guys.  What - sucking water out of the lake?

We wander over and ask what they're up to.  The tall, blonde guy, Werner (the German), has moved his 5th wheel trailer into place and is in deep sand (or deep something).  He’s hosing down the sand in an attempt to pack it down so he can, hopefully, get out more easily in a few days.  His friend, Stan (the Navajo), is supervising the operation.  We have a long chat and are invited to stop by any time we’re down this way.

As we continue down the beach we notice a little activity picking up.  An OHV, a dirt bike along the water’s edge.

All is forgotten when we come across Greg and Jane from New Zealand sipping wine outside their rented motorhome.  We chat, they offer a glass of wine, we chat, more wine is poured.  They’re only here for the night and have a schedule to keep before returning to New Zealand.  It would be fun to spend more time with these Kiwis, as they so loving call themselves.  The flightless bird native to New Zealand – not the fruit.  We exchange email addresses.  If we ever get to New Zealand, we’ll look them up.
