What happened? It's only Thursday and the beach is overrun by kids ... and their parents, and their "stuff".
It’s Thursday and there are
kids galore up and down the beach. In
fact, the beach has become quite populated since yesterday. The single OHV and dirt bike of yesterday has
turned into this.
We discover the kids
are out of school for parent-teacher conferences and teacher in-service.
The beach is lined with
motorhomes, trailers, tents, and lots of toys.
Everyone’s here to play for the long, warm weekend.
We reach the little enclave
of trailers of our new-found friends, Stan and Werner. They’ve constructed a tarp around poles to
block the wind that comes up in the evening.
We join them in
conversation. Introductions of their
group ensue. Werner and Sheila. Stan and his grandson. George and Shari. We mention the increase in population today. They just laugh at us. "This is nothing," they say. "In the summer, they are packed in 4 or 5 deep from the beach back." We now know where we don't want to spend the summer. Before long the sun has sent and the moon is
rising in the east.
The campfire is roaring and
we enjoy dinner together. These ladies are fabulous cooks!
We wander up the beach late
in the evening chill, trudging through the deep sand. It seemed a lot more fun when the sun warmed
the air and sand. We should remember
this.
